The Community Health Corner
The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development strategies with education and health literacy programs to ensure that every person has the opportunity to attain their full health potential. The following tools and resources can be used to improve health access, equity and well-being to achieve Healthy Kansas 2030 objectives and contribute to the nation’s Healthy People 2030 outcomes.
PLAN TO ATTEND: The 2023 Kansas Governor’s Public Health Conference will be held on March 28-30 at the Manhattan Conference Center (Hilton Garden Inn) in Manhattan. A wide selection of breakout sessions tailored to meet the changing needs of the populations served through public health programs and initiatives will be offered. Session tracks include MCH Home Visiting, MCH/Family Planning, Public Health, Hot Topics & Leadership. Read the conference agenda here and register here. ATTEND REGIONAL MEETINGS: IKC (Immunize Kansas Coalition) is holding regional in-person and virtual meetings throughout April:
- April 24, 10:00 a.m. - Noon in Garden City
- April 25, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in Wichita
- April 26, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in Kansas City
- April 26, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Pittsburg
During these meetings, get to know IKC, learn about new educational resources and events, and share their voice in listening sessions about local successes and challenges related to immunization uptake and access. Sign up today to indicate your attendance plans, in-person or virtually, and a calendar invite will be sent for the meeting(s) of your choice.
REGISTER NOW: The timely and dynamic 2023 National Health Outreach & Engagement Conference (NHOC) is being held in Ithaca, NY at the Statler Hotel and Statler Hall on Cornell University’s campus May 22-24, and we want Kansas to have a solid representation at the event! The conference theme of “Health Equity: Framing our Work” focuses on ensuring that all people have a fair and just opportunity to experience lifelong health and well-being. Keynote speakers, concurrent and poster sessions will be relevant for professionals who address health, nutrition, youth development, workforce development and human development. Register here.
