The K-State College of Agriculture/KSRE Diversity Programs Office and K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Chapter have had an eventful spring 2024 semester thus far. Please join us in celebrating our past events and preparing for our upcoming activities.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the DPO and the K-State MANRRS chapter are hosting Dr. JohnElla Holmes, President and CEO of the Kansas Black Farmers Association on March 5 to speak with the GENAG 210, Human and Cultural Diversity in Agriculture class.

On March 6, 2024, the DPO will present during the Office of Student Belonging & Inclusion College for a Day with Jardine Middle School. Also on March 6, K-State MANRRS will host a meeting on Professionalism and Conference Preparation, sponsored by Kansas Soybean.

On March 19, 4:30 p.m. in Town Hall of Leadership Studies, we will host Nikki Lang the lead for Diversity, Equity, and Belonging at Bimbo Bakeries USA to talk about the “Importance of Women in Agriculture & Industry”. We hope you will join us for this impactful event. RSVP to attend here.

We are proud to announce that 19 K-State MANRRS members will represent Kansas State University during the 2024 National MANRRS Conference in Chicago, IL, March 20-23, 2024.

Finally, on March 28, we will be hosting 120 students from Black Student Unions in the greater Kansas City Area for a JR MANRRS and BSU Agriculture Summit at K-State Olathe. The event will educate the middle and high school students about the opportunities at K-State and in agriculture. Thanks to Dairy Farmers of America, the National MANRRS Office, and Diversity Booster, Inc. for sponsoring this event.

In addition to our upcoming events, the DPO and K-State Agriculture Diversity Programs Office had a positive and impactful February, Black History Month.

On February 5-9, 2024, the K-State MANRRS chapter held a successful Spring 2024 MANRRS Week. Huge thanks to Cargill, USDA, and Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies for their partnership and sponsorship.

Throughout the week, K-State MANRRS accepted donations for a Cats’ Cupboard Food Drive that was in partnership with K-State Mortar Board XIX and AKA Sorority Inc., Kappa Pi Chapter. February 5, Cargill sponsored the K-State MANRRS Coffee Hour in Weber Hall. On February 6, K-State MANRRS hosted their biannual “Growing Our Mindset” Diversity Forum. We are pleased that John Niemann, Chairman of the K-State College of Agriculture Dean’s Advisory Board and Owner/Operator of JNiemann Enterprises, facilitated our biannual 14th “Growing Our Mindset” Diversity Forum. Over sixty attendees participated in the discussion. If you want to watch the “Growing Our Mindset” click the link (GOM Video).

On February 7, there was a K-State MANRRS General Body meeting that featured Cargill representatives and KSU Alumni, Myles Copeland and Michael Dowd. On February 9, K-State MANRRS partnered with USDA to celebrate Membership & Diversity Awareness Day. If you would like to learn more about our Spring 2024 K-State MANRRS week, visit KSU MANRRS Week.
