Shout Out: Matthew McKernan, Abbey Draut, Debra Harries, and Sedgwick County Master Gardeners
This week the Shout Out is from the State Extension Master Gardener Program Team; and is sent for Matthew McKernan, Abbey Draut, and Sedgwick County Master Gardeners. Annie Baker writes:
"We would like to give a shout out to Matthew McKernan, Abbey Draut, Debra Harries, and the incredible Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardener volunteers for their outstanding work in developing effective messaging around drought response for Sedgwick County residents. Their campaign, centered around the theme "Water Smart Wallet Smart," includes four key educational areas - each offering five practical actions homeowners can take to keep their lawns, gardens and landscapes healthy while complying with city drought restrictions. These efforts not only provide impactful actionable advice but also help the public understand the City of Wichita's water restrictions and the reasonings behind them. Along with their volunteers, Matthew and Abbey selected water conservation as the central focus for all 2025 public outreach efforts through the Extension Master Gardener program.
Thank you, Matthew and Abbey, for leading the way on this critical issue with straightforward and creative research-based programming that's both engaging and impactful to your communities and applicable to all Kansans!"
Matthew, Abbey, Debra, and Sedgwick County Master Gardeners -- thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.
