Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Information
The 2025 Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes will be hosted August 23-24 on the K-State campus in Manhattan. The event includes the state 4-H livestock judging contest, meat judging contest, livestock skillathon, and livestock quiz bowl, in one, action-packed weekend. This will be considered the state contest and national qualifying event for all four contests. The contests will be designed with the competitive intensity and difficulty level of a state event.
The sweepstakes competition recognizes the combined performance of members in all of the contests over the weekend. The sweepstakes award tabulation for individuals includes those youth who compete in livestock judging, open division (senior) meat judging, and livestock skillathon. The team sweepstakes includes teams who compete in livestock judging, open division (senior) meat judging, livestock skillathon, and the livestock quiz bowl. Participation in the sweepstakes competition is optional; counties and individuals may elect to participate in only individual contests (i.e. only livestock judging or only meat judging, etc.). However, the August 1 entry deadline applies to all contests hosted during Livestock Sweepstakes weekend. This is a firm deadline. Youth must be registered by their local extension office, through the provided Cvent link. Entries need to be submitted and approved by local extension agents. Youth and families should not be registering independently. The results for all contests will be announced at the conclusion of the weekend’s events on Sunday afternoon.
The rules for individual contests, as well as overall Livestock Sweepstakes, are posted on the K-State Youth Livestock Program website: https://www.asi.k-state.edu/extension/youth-programs/events/livestock_sweepstakes/. The tentative schedule is also posted on the website.
All entries must be submitted through the local extension office by August 1. This is a firm deadline.
Accommodation requests must be submitted through the University system prior to the registration deadline, at least 4 weeks prior to the event. You will also be acknowledging the 4HOnline information regarding a member’s publicity and evaluation releases will be used. Please remind parents if their child needs an accommodation, they will need to work with you/their local office and follow the established request process through the University.
Please refer to the email distributed through the listserv on July 1 for additional details and the link to register 4-H members.
