Diversity Programs Office Update
DPO would like to share some information about our upcoming events:
- The K-State Chapter of MANRRS went to the 2015 Region 4 MANRRS Cluster Workshop in Jefferson City, MO on the campus of Lincoln University from October 23-25. Participation was good, where over 60 students from 5 states attended sessions, a career and graduate fair, as well as a banquet. We are proud of our student delegation, led by Phil LeBlanc and Tiffany Carter! The office would like to thank Dow Agrosciences, the USDA, and Cargill for sponsoring the Region IV Cluster Workshop. This conference was great preparation for the 31st Annual Career Fair and Training Conference in Jacksonville, Florida from March 31-April 2, 2016. A special thank you to Cargill for sponsoring our student delegation!
- Dr. Keith Harris, Assistant Professor in Agribusiness Management, is coming to speak to MANRRS next Wednesday during its General Body meeting at 6 p.m. in Waters 137. All are invited.
- The K-State Black Student Union is partnering with the K-State Alumni Center in "Adinkrahene: A Celebration of the Leadership of Dr. Myra E. Gordon." This event is to honor and celebrate Dr. Gordon, Associate Provost for Diversity, as she plans to retire at the end of 2015. The event takes place on Saturday, November 7, from 9 -11:30 a.m., in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. If you’re interested in sharing a note of gratitude, please contact Dr. Jessica Elmore at jlsmith8@ksu.edu or 785-532-5060.
- Congratulations to Bryon Williams, Brandon Clark, and Dr. Dawne Martin for receiving the national Role Models Award from Minority Access Inc! This year is also the second year in a row that the university has received the HEED scholarship from Minority Access Inc.
- Congratulations to KSRE on a successful annual conference, “Leading in a Changing World,” led by Dr. Chris Onstad and Dr. John Ruberson from October 20 -22. Congratulations to Dr. Zelia Wiley, who was awarded the Epsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity’s Individual Diversity Award during the Awards Luncheon on October 22.
