Announcing Robert (Bob) Bauernfeind's Retirement.

Submitted by Sharon Schroll

Requesting letters - please do not reply to Bob directly -- see below.

Bob will be retiring from Kansas State University on January 29, 2016 after almost 37 years of committed service to the state and university. Bob started his K-State Extension Career in Entomology in Hutchinson, KS, in 1978, then moved to Manhattan in 1992. Bob has done a great deal over the years in horticultural entomology, focusing on trees and shrubs, and has devoted immense time and energy to support and educate the children and youth of our state - supporting 4-H and FFA, and devoting endless hours to collecting insects, and identifying and pinning them for many projects. He was a long-time judge of youth entomology projects at the Kansas State Fair. He also was in charge of the FFA Contest held in Manhattan with all High Schools participating, and he also played a key role with the KSU Insect Zoo. Bob has a great attitude about helping, and is always willing to help with whatever projects, or to identify odd insects for the public. Bob is a treasury of information on insects of Kansas, and his vast knowledge and tireless service will be greatly missed.

Bob has requested no retirement party. However, we would like to put together a book of letters from people who have worked with Bob in various roles throughout the years and who would like to wish him well on his new adventure in retirement. Please submit no later than January 20, 2016.
