On Workers' Memorial Day
Each year on April 28, Workers’ Memorial Day is observed. Dr. David Michaels, OSHA Assistant Secretary of Labor states, “On Workers’ Memorial Day, we remember and honor all work men and women who have lost their lives on the job. We remember the co-workers, friends, and families that these fallen workers left behind, and on this day we recommit ourselves to this mission—that at the end of every workday, every worker can go home safe and healthy. On this day, we mourn not just for the lost lives and damaged bodies, but also for the opportunity that is lost, the American dreams that are extinguished. We recognize the burden that workplace injuries and illnesses place on workers, their families, and society as a whole.”
KSU College of Agriculture Environmental Health and Safety Office encourages staff to take time this April 28th to pay tribute to those who have died of work related injuries and illnesses. In addition, to use this day as an opportunity for all departments to renew their internal commitment to occupational health and safety with staff. Together, we can make a difference.
