Calling All Extension Professionals: Facilitators Needed!

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

Facilitating community and industry conversations is becoming an increasingly important part of our job as Extension professionals. Not only are K-State Research and Extension professionals deemed a trusted resource for research-based information, we are fast becoming the trusted and go-to resource for facilitation. Simply put, when people go to a conference or public meeting and see a team of purple-shirted facilitators, they know that meeting will be facilitated fairly and that all voices will be heard!

We have another opportunity to provide for the public good through facilitation. This one focuses on the Grand Challenge of water. On April 9 and 10, Kansas and Colorado will be co-hosting eight other states at the Ogallala Aquifer Summit in Garden City, Kansas. Our role will be to facilitate an interstate collaboration planning discussion about the Ogallala Aquifer.

You do not need to be an expert facilitator to participate. In fact, this will be a safe but meaningful activity to develop your facilitation skills. We need table facilitators, recorders and reporters. There will be facilitation training provided beforehand via Zoom and on site before the conference starts.

I ask that you consider this opportunity. It will benefit the people we serve and allow you to hone your facilitation skills. Travel funds will be made available to you. If you would like to explore this opportunity, please contact Trudy Rice at trice@ksu.edu. We need to have our facilitation team established by March 12.

Thanks for your consideration of this matter, and, as always, thanks for all of the great Extension work you have done, are doing, and will do in the future!
