K-State Research and Extension Introduces Two New Communication Efforts
‘Better Kansas’ blog and ‘Dig Deep’ podcast shine light on resources, experts.
The K-State Research and Extension News Media Services team has launched two new communication efforts to help, educate and inform Kansans: a weekly blog, “Better Kansas,” and a monthly podcast, “Dig Deep.”
The “Better Kansas” blog is written by Mary Lou Peter and posted each Thursday. In it, she highlights the breadth of services offered through K-State Research and Extension. While each edition isn’t meant to be a comprehensive cross-section of resources – because that would be impossible given the breadth and depth of the statewide network – the intent is to shine a light every week on a sampling of programs, resources and events that Kansans should know about but may not.
Readers of the blog who want to receive it automatically via email can subscribe via a simple submission form on the left side of the page.
The content of the blog is meant to be shared widely, so readers who find something they think family or friends need to see are encouraged to share it via social media.
The “Dig Deep” podcast is a monthly conversation with scientists whose work is funded through K-State Research and Extension. In each episode, host Randall Kowalik talks with a different scientist about their work, what spurred that curiosity, what motivates them to keep digging, and what are they like as people. (Spoiler: Scientists aren't that different from the rest of us!)
The podcast launched with two episodes for listeners to hear what they can expect each subsequent: One features Cassie Jones, assistant professor of feed technology in the Department of Grain Science and Industry, and the other features Cheryl Boyer, associate professor of nursery crops in the Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources.
