College of Agriculture Diversity Programs Office

Submitted by Summer Smades

In celebration of Women’s History Month and the importance of inclusion and diversity, the College of Agriculture’s student leadership will present the spring 2020 diversity forum, “Growing our Mindset: Diversity in the Workplace,” from 4:30 - 6 p.m. today in the Town Hall of the Leadership Studies Building. This forum is designed to engage students and faculty members in an open dialogue and presentation regarding diversity and inclusion in academic, professional, and everyday settings. This event will feature Demetha Sanders, Cargill’s Global Head of Inclusion and Talent Management. Sanders will discuss the importance of maintaining a diverse team in the workplace. Please join us in this dialogue!

Light refreshments will be served. The student groups leading the event include: College of Agriculture Ambassadors, Ag Student Council, and the K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Chapter. The College of Agriculture asks that you join in this vital conversation about diversity. We would like to thank our partners, Diversity & Multicultural Student Affairs (DMSA), the College of Agriculture/KSRE, and the College of Agriculture/KSRE Diversity Programs Office (DPO) for their continued support. Special thanks to Cargill and DMSA for sponsoring the event. We hope to see all of you there at 4:30!

Other upcoming events include MANRRS Week, March 16 - 20, 2020. On Monday they will be holding a Soles4Souls drive at the K-State Student Union to collect gently worn shoes to donate. If you would like to learn more, visit soles4souls.org. Tuesday, the MANRRS Chapter will be holding a fundraiser at Freddy’s (5 - 9 p.m.), and Wednesday is their General Body Meeting, “#This is IMPACT.” Thursday the Chapter will be hosting a fundraiser at the Manhattan Orange Leaf (5 - 9 p.m.), and to finish off the week, K-State MANRRS will be having MANRRS Awareness day/Voters’ Registration Day on the Waters Hall Lawn. We hope you are able to come and support the students throughout the week.

On April 1 - 4, we will be taking a 12-student delegation to participate in the 2020 MANRRS National Conference in Minneapolis, MN. This event will give students the opportunity to display the value of their education in a professional environment. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in workshops designed to help them as they move forward with their collegiate or professional careers. We hope to make this a great success.

Congratulations to Raymond Thomas, Graduate student in Agricultural Economics and K-State MANRRS Chapter Graduate Vice President, for his participation in the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), Ag Policy summit with MANRRS in Washington D.C.

Please continue to look for more diversity news and events as we continue the 2020 spring semester. We appreciate all your support. For more information about upcoming events please contact Dr. Zelia Wiley, Assistant Dean and Director of Diversity Programs, at 785-532-5793 or zwiley@ksu.edu.
