A Cautionary Reminder About COVID-19 Related Humor

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

A quick, cautionary reminder:

We need to be extra vigilant with our words right now because so many of us are communicating more via the written word, whether by increasing our social media activity, more-frequent email blasts, or through newsletters that we have always used but which (we hope) are getting even more attention now.

We all know how something that’s meant as a joke can seem much different when it’s written than when it’s delivered through speaking.

Please take an extra moment before sending or posting helpful information so you can ensure that it:

•is not unintentionally biased.
•can’t be misinterpreted.
•doesn’t reflect negatively on K-State Research and Extension.

Remember that we serve everyone, no matter their beliefs, attitudes or political leanings.

And while you’re at it, please review your writing to ensure you don’t have grammatical errors, misspellings or missing words.

Let’s all make sure we put our best feet forward for Kansas State University.
