The Community Health Corner

Submitted by Elaine Johannes

According to the CDC, community health uses science-based approaches for the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the conditions and determinants that impact health. Changes in policies, systems and environments, settings are among the most effective ways to tackle big health issues. Being healthy is not just about individual choices; it’s also about the conditions that influence everyone’s health.

The following are community health tools that you can use for Grand Challenge for Health work:

AVAILABLE NOW – Many health organizations are launching community health assessments which are required for on-going federal health-related funding. The Kansas Public Health Collaborative has a handy Public Health Tool Box that has assessment, planning and communication tools.

REGISTER NOW – March 22; Reframing Childhood Adversity: Promoting Upstream Approaches offered by the National Human Services (webinar)

PREPARE NOW – April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month; Kansas Children’s Service League reminds us to wear blue on April 1 to kick-off a month of awareness. Order child abuse prevention campaign material now from KCSL.
