Diversity Programs Office: Celebrating Women's History Month

Submitted by Zelia Wiley

In celebration of Women’s history month, the College of Agriculture Diversity Programs Office (DPO) is highlighting women in Ag and social justice. These highlights are taking place on social media and at the K-State MANRRS Chapter meetings. Also, to support inclusion and diversity, the College of Agriculture’s student leadership will present the spring 2021 diversity forum, “Growing our Mindset: A conversation about the importance of diversity in the workplace,” on March 23, 2021 from 5:30-7 p.m. The event will be held on a virtual format; Meeting ID: 923 2793 1866. This forum is designed to engage students and faculty members in an open dialogue and presentation regarding diversity and inclusion in academic, professional, and everyday settings. This event will feature J.J. Jones, founder of Roots and Legacies Consulting. Jones will discuss the importance of maintaining a diverse team in the workplace. Please join us in this dialogue!

The student groups leading the event include: College of Agriculture Ambassadors, Ag Student Council, and the K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Chapter. The College of Agriculture asks that you join in this vital conversation about diversity. We would like to thank our partners - Diversity & Multicultural Student Affairs (DMSA), the College of Agriculture/KSRE, and the College of Agriculture/KSRE Diversity Programs Office (DPO) for their continued support. We hope to see all of you there at 5:30!

Other upcoming events include MANRRS Week, March 22-26, 2021. On Monday, March 22, MANRRS will be holding a Membership Drive in Morris Family Multicultural Student Center. Tuesday, March 23, the Growing Our Mindset forum will take place virtually from 5:30-7 p.m.; Meeting ID: 923 2793 1866. Wednesday, March 24, MANRRS will host their bi-monthly General Body Meeting, with corporate guest Catherine M. Cosby, Business Unit QMP Operations Manager for MARS Petcare. The meeting will start at 6 p.m.; Meeting ID: 923 2793 1866. Thursday, March 25, the Chapter will welcome Merck Corporate partner, Anthony Harris, Associate Director-Human Resources, for a visit at 12 noon. This event will be held virtually; Meeting ID: 923 2793 1866. Friday, March 26, the chapter will partner with K-State Proud to clean up Bluemont Park (Manhattan Hill) from 5-5:30 p.m. and host an IHOP Fundraiser from 4-10 p.m. We hope you can come and support the students throughout the week.

On April 6-9, the 35th Annual Training Conference & Career Expo - 2021 MANRRS National Conference will take place virtually. This event will give students the opportunity to display the value of their education in a professional environment. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in virtual workshops designed to help them as they move forward with their collegiate or professional careers. We hope to make this a great success.

Please continue to look for more diversity news and events as we continue the 2021 spring semester. We appreciate all your support. For more information about upcoming events, please contact Dr. Zelia Wiley, Assistant Dean and Director of Diversity Programs, at 785-532-5793 or zwiley@ksu.edu.
