Water Resource Management Training Begins this Week
The first two sessions of the virtual training series, “Water Resource Management and Irrigation in Kansas,” will take place this week, March 24 and 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The first session, titled “Sustainable Management of Water Resources in Kansas,” will feature speakers from Groundwater Management Districts, the Department of Agriculture, the Kansas Water Office and the Kansas Geologic Survey. The presentations will discuss water appropriation, groundwater conditions and trends, water right administration and conservation tools, local conservation efforts and a legislative update.
Day two, “Understanding Irrigation Systems and New Technologies,” will summarize key findings from a recent survey of agricultural producers in the Ogallala Aquifer region and review recent developments in irrigated acreage across Kansas. There will also be a discussion about irrigation technologies and management techniques currently in use, as well as information about the economic impact associated with groundwater use reductions.
This training theme, consisting of five sessions, is sponsored by the Natural Resources Professional Focus Team and KCARE. All sessions will be conducted via zoom and livestreamed on the KCARE YouTube channel. Instructions on how to log in to zoom and livestream will be made available on the KCARE Training Events Website on the morning of the event. Interested participants are asked to preregister, using this link.
This workshop series will also include sessions on climate and weather resources to support water decisions (March 30), innovative water management technologies (March 31) and irrigating lawns and urban water conservation (April 8).
