Community health uses science-based approaches for the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the social, economic and structural drivers that impact everyone’s health. The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development practices to ensure that every person has the opportunity to "attain his or her full health potential," and no one is "disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances." The following tools and resources can be used to improve health equity and well-being working with communities to achieve the nation’s Healthy People 2030 objectives.

BE SAFE NOW: Though fall is around the corner, heat waves continue to hit many parts of the nation. The Public Health Institute (PHI) offers How to Stay Safe During A Heat Wave information. Heat waves can be deadly, fueling wildfires and increasing the risks of heat stroke, other heat-related illnesses, asthma and more. PHI experts share five ways here to stay safe and help your community prepare for current and future heat-related illnesses.

REGISTER NOW: The KPHA (Kansas Public Health Association) conference is being held on the Wichita State University campus on September 29 (Thursday), from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Keynote speaker is Ed O’Malley, formerly Executive Director of the Kansas Leadership Center, Kansas Health Foundation President and CEO. O’Malley’s remarks will focus on some of Kansas Health Foundation’s current thinking about opportunities to create a healthier Kansas and invite everyone to take the bold steps necessary to transform the systems that serve Kansans. Register for the conference here.

NEW SOCIAL MEDIA KIT: AgriSafe has produced a new social media toolkit for COVID-19 vaccine; beginning vaccinations and boosters. The Vaccine Confidence Toolkit is designed for use by rural organizations and community groups, educators and healthcare providers in clinics and schools. You can download graphics and add local extension unit contact information to them. Access the toolkit at  https://www.agrisafe.org/covid-19-social-media-toolkit/.
