Shout Out: Lucas Haag
This Shout Out comes from Angie Gaede, Northwest Research Extension Center office specialist, and is directed to Lucas Haag, extension agronomist in the Northwest Research Extension Center. Angie writes:
"This Shout Out goes to our area agronomy specialist, Lucas Haag. Lucas never misses an opportunity to educate our youth. And recently when our district’s After School Program kids were on our Colby KSRE site to look for bugs and butterflies, Lucas not only joined them, but when he realized our farm crew was drilling wheat on site, he took the time to teach them about what we do here and why. He showed them the wheat seed and how the wheat is planted. Lucas and the children discussed what we use wheat for and how important it is to us.
It is specialists like Lucas Haag that make the difference in our state. That show our local communities that Kansas State University and K-State Research and Extension lives by its motto that ‘we understand key issues, because we are close to them.’ So close that we can look out our office window, see 30 kids in the yard, and see an opportunity. An opportunity to help, an opportunity to educate and an opportunity to share your passion. A passion, that maybe one day, will be the same passion of someone who says, “I remember the day Mr. Haag showed me how wheat was planted.”
Lucas, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.
If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues who deserve recognition for a job well done, why not nominate them for a Shout Out. Simply send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ksreshoutout@ksu.edu. Also, it would be very helpful if you would put "Shout Out" in the subject line of the email.
