Community health uses science-based approaches for the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the social, economic, and structural conditions that impact everyone’s health. The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development practices to ensure that every person has the opportunity to "attain his or her full health potential," and no one is "disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances." The following tools and resources can be used to improve health equity and well-being working with communities to achieve the nation’s Healthy People 2030 objectives.

PARTICIPATE NOW: The state of Kansas has a new Healthy Kansas 2023 (HK2030) State Assessment and Health Improvement (SHIP) Plan, and you are invited by KDHE to participate in the implementation of the plan through working groups! All Extension professionals who have interest in the health and well-being of Kansans are encouraged to locally contribute to and help lead elements of this state plan. The link below is to join a SHIP Priority Work Group (you can select the priority you want to be involved with) to support the plan's implementation: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HK2030SHIPImpOpp09-22.

CELEBRATE NOW: National Rural Health Day is November 17, 2022. Plan to celebrate by using tools provided by the Rural Health Association and that National State Offices of Rural Health. Tools include a coloring book, flyers, talking points, logos and more. All tools are available at no cost here.

LEARN MORE: Babies who are breastfed have improved likelihood for better health and development throughout their childhood. Learn more through the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition's trainings offered online. The next training is  Breastfeeding 101: The Basics December 8, 2022 (8:30 a.m. - Noon). This course covers core concepts of breastfeeding—making milk and getting the milk (latch and positioning). Register here. More about the Breastfeeding Coalition's offerings and work is here
