Vara Prasad Named in Top 1% of World’s Influential and Highly Cited Researchers for 2022

P.V. Vara Prasad, director of the Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab, university distinguished professor, and R.O. Kruse Professor of Agriculture at Kansas State University, has been listed in the Clarivate World’s Influential Researchers with Highly Cited Researchers 2022 List. Prasad is the only researcher named in the list from K-State for 2022.

“This is truly an incredible achievement for Dr. Prasad to be named in the top 1% of highly cited researchers across the globe for 2022,” said David Rosowsky, vice president for research at K-State. “It is an honor to have him here at Kansas State University conducting his research and making an impact around the world.”

Prasad obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (India), and Ph.D. from the University of Reading (United Kingdom). His research focuses on understanding responses of crops to changing environments and developing best management strategies to improve and protect yields. He is passionate about research, education, and outreach activities, and building human and institutional capacity.

Additionally, Prasad has active programs in several countries in Africa and Asia focused on improving the livelihoods of people and providing food and nutritional security to smallholder farmers.

To date, Prasad has published 380 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His research has been cited 22,600 times with h-index of 77 and i10-index of 235 (based on google scholar statistics). He has trained 210 students and research scholars from 25 countries. He has given over 150 invited talks in 40 countries and has received more than $120 million (about $85 million as principal investigator) in grant funding and donations.

Prasad is an elected fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America, and the American Association from the Advancement of Science. He recently served on the International Commission on Sustainable Agriculture Intensification board and is former President of the Crop Science Society of America. He currently serves as the past president of K-State’s university distinguished professors’ group, and past president of K-State chapter of Sigma-Xi. At present he serves on Board of Representatives of the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology.
