Professional Development Scholarships Available for Extension
Interested supporting and developing cooperatives in Kansas?
As a recipient of a USDA Rural Cooperative Development Grant, the Rural Grocery Initiative is able to support a select number of K-State Research and Extension personnel to participate in the Building Blocks course offered by CooperationWorks. The course will help build capacity for cooperative development across Kansas.
About Building Blocks: Cooperative Basics, Building Capacity, and Developing Leadership
“Building Blocks provides a thorough but introductory overview into the field of cooperative development. This session lays out the basics of the cooperative model, including governance, feasibility, business basics and memberships. We’ll cover topics ranging from cooperative history to building your cooperative ecosystem. Participants will learn from case studies that delve into particular topics in co-op development, such as investment cooperatives, conversions and assisting groups in low-resource communities. Additionally, tours to local co-ops and ample networking opportunities make this an intensive, productive, and meaningful training.”
The course is being offered in several formats this summer and fall.
- Virtual: July 6-27, 2023, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 2-3 hour afternoon sessions
- In person: September 19-20, 2023: San Francisco, CA, two-day session with in-person training, networking, and co-op tours
- Full program: Participate in both virtual and in person sessions
