Food as Medicine

The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development strategies with health literacy programs to ensure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. The following resources help us improve well-being for all and achieve Healthy Kansas 2030 and Healthy People 2030 objectives.

Food as Medicine: The Food is Medicine Institute at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University released a report we produced with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, titled True Cost of Food: Food is Medicine Case Study. The report features two national case studies demonstrating the health equity and economic benefits of medically tailored meals (MTMs) and produce prescription programs as it offers an analysis of the costs and benefits of implementing Food is Medicine programs across the country.

Healthy People 2030: Healthy People 2030 has published a new Healthy People in States and Territories web page. The new resource provides an overview of the Healthy People State and Territorial Coordinators, a list and links for most recent available health improvement plans for all states, territories, and island jurisdictions, and links to relevant Leading Health Indicators.

Culturally Driven Public Health Communications: A recording of the Public Health Communications Collaborative's recent webinar, which highlighted the new resource, Communications Tool: Strategies for Developing Culturally Driven Public Health Communications.
