Managing Woody Encroachment Session at Annual Conference

Submitted by Carol Baldwin

Kansas rangelands are in peril from woody encroachment. Past strategies utilizing a piecemeal approach to woody species control on rangelands already covered in trees and shrubs have failed to reverse the transition to undesirable brushy landscape. Often land cleared of brush is rapidly reclaimed by woody species. It’s time for a new approach.

The KSRE Annual Conference breakout session, Tree Free, Weed Free: New concepts in woody plant control in rangelands, on Wednesday, October 25, at 2:30 p.m., will introduce the publication, Reducing Woody Encroachment in Grasslands: A Pocket Guide for Planning and Design and the science behind the new approach. The session will be divided evenly between a presentation and a hands-on activity, with time for questions and discussion.

Please join us to learn how to be more effective in conserving rangelands in your county!
