4-H Offers International Exchanges for Alumni and Volunteers in 2024

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

Each of the international exchanges offered to 4-H youth through States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs (States’ 4-H) will have one or more chaperones who accompany the youth group from the United States, throughout their stay and return with them, to assist them during the experience.

This year States’ 4-H is offering opportunities for Lead Chaperones who are 26 and older, as well as Junior Chaperones who are 19-25 to support the larger delegations traveling to some countries. Chaperones are expected to have experience working with youth. Past support of 4-H programs, international travel experience, and host country language skills in some countries, are preferred.

Online Chaperone Applications can be found on the Kansas 4-H and States’ 4-H websites along with information about the positions. Selection of chaperones is made by States’ 4-H. Chaperone applicants are encouraged to attend the Kansas delegate Interviews and First Orientation on November 19 in Junction City.

For more information on Chaperone positions, contact Mary Kay Munson, Kansas 4-H International Exchange Coordinator, at 785-375-3189, mkm2@ksu.edu. Kansas has been part of the IFYE Program for 75 years, since its origin in 1948. 4-H alumni 19-25 are offered the opportunity to apply for IFYE Exchanges to a number of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. These farm, rural community, and home stay exchanges are individually designed to accommodate interests and experience of applicants and the local focus of partner 4-H and rural youth programs. Most exchanges begin in June and offer experiences for two months, three months, and six months.

Applications are made through www.IFYEUSA.org. Interviews and Orientations begin in Kansas on November 19, 2023 in Junction City with a Kansas application date of November 15. Information is available on the Kansas 4-H and IFYE USA websites or by contacting Mary Kay Munson at 785-375-3189 or mkm2@ksu.edu.
