Updated FMLA Process (Family Medical Leave Act)
In the past the department HR Liaison has been responsible for managing all aspects of FMLA. K-State has a fairly new FMLA & Leave Specialist, Maiah Diel, who will partner with departments to oversee FMLA across the university.
FMLA is short for Family Medical Leave Act and serves a very important role in providing job protected leave for employees in certain situations. FMLA can run concurrent with other paid leave you may be using while you are out. For more information visit, https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/benefits-leave/fmla
What you need to know:
- If you plan to be out for 3 or more days for your own medical situation or a family member’s medical situation, please let me know.
- If it sounds like it could be an FMLA situation, I will notify the FMLA & Leave Specialist for further communication with you.
- If not, (i.e., you had a virus that kept you away from the office for 3 days) you will take sick leave as normal.
