Kansas Radon Action Month - Test Kits & Public Meetings

Submitted by Kristina Snyder

dates of KRP webinars Jan 6, noon, Jan 13, 2pm, Feb 3 6pm and links for registering.

January is Kansas Radon Action Month (KRAM) and now is the time to restock your KSRE Extension office’s supply of radon test kits in preparation for when demand tends to be highest. To purchase test kits from the Kansas Radon Program (KRP) at K-State Engineering Extension contact Stephanie Lehmkuhl by email at smlehmkuhl@ksu.edu or by phone: (785) 532-4995. The price of test kits is $8.50 each through June 30, 2026, for extension offices. Folks can also purchase kits directly from sosradon.org for $20/each here: https://sosradon.org/test-kits.

For KRAM 2026, we are trying something new for KRP outreach and education with our K-State Extension partners. We will offer three, 30-minute Public Radon 101 Webinars in January/early February. We invite extension offices to host a local public viewing (in conjunction with other health outreach or information or on its own) or share the registration link with residents so they can join individually. Webinar times and dates will be as below. Register here for any or all sessions (both individuals and extension offices welcome through this registration link): https://shorturl.at/B1jCa

  • January 6, 2026 – noon-12:30 pm Central
  • January 13, 2026 – 2:00-2:30 pm Central
  • February 3, 2026 – 6:00-6:30 pm Central

Additionally, the Kansas Radon Program partnered a few years ago with KDHE’s Tobacco Use Prevention Program to raise Kansans’ awareness about the combined health risk of radon and tobacco use. The brochure here: https://www.kansasradonprogram.org/sites/kansasradonprogram/files/TobaccoRadon%20GENERIC%20brochure.pdf has information on both programs, including the Kansas Tobacco QuitLine.

Please feel free to share the Radon and Tobacco information or public radon meeting registration links with residents of your counties, especially during KRAM season.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
