Diversity Programs Office Update

Submitted by Zelia Wiley and Zuleica Gerardo

The Diversity Programs Office would like to share some information about our events for the beginning of the Spring Semester:
     • The K-State Chapter of MANRRS would like to thank all who attended the special event last Wednesday night “Trailblazers of Kansas State University: The First Black Graduates Revisited.” We are indebted to the Special Collections Department of Hale Library for helping the chapter discover the history made right here on K-State’s campus.
    • Please feel free to come by the DPO Bulletin Board to view information on Minnie Howell and George Washington Owens, the First Black Graduates of Kansas State University. The display will be exhibited for the next two weeks.
   • Please find the time to attend the rest of the Black History Month events:
o Tuesday, February 16 - Business Fashion Show hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc -Black Celebrity discussion - K-State Union Room 227, 7 p.m.
o Tuesday, February 23 - “Our Story: Black at K-State” - Hemisphere Room in Hale Library, 7 p.m.
o February 25-27 - Ebony Theatre’s “Dutchman” - New Purple Masque Theatre (East Stadium next to Alumni Center), 7:30 p.m.
    • Another event of note is “For Those Who Love God and Trap Music: Hip Hop, Social Justice, and Cultural Resistance” featuring the Hip Hop Pedagogue Dr. Joycelyn Wilson on Tuesday, February 23, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. in Room 227.
