Cash Call Back by Governor and University
As we’ve scoured our budget regarding the immediate 3.5% cash call back, I am alerting our local Extension units we are going to have to invoice each local unit for this current cash call back. Simply stated, we do not have central funds to cover the current 3.5% call back that is a result of the combined call back of state general funds by the Governor, and the earlier call back by the University.
This is an across the board call back for the FY2016, current fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2016. All campus and area departments/units are also being asked to return 3.5% of their general use funds. All call back funds will need to be returned prior to June 30, 2016.
We are working to get the calculations made for each local Extension unit. The way in which to calculate the cost to a local unit is to look at the total contribution coming from KSU for their budget, including the salary and benefits paid, and taking that total times 0.035.
Be reminded, this call back is where K-State Research and Extension is at currently. This fiscal year is not complete, and it is unknown what may happen if state general fund revenues fall short of estimates for the coming months.
Also, be aware that Kansas State University is currently working on an estimated 2-4% permanent budget reduction in FY2017, which begins on July 1, 2016 through June 30,2017, and that reflects no budget adjustment from Kansas state government.
Whether through good times or these more difficult times, we must remain focused on what it means to be the best possible Extension professional. Never lose sight of your clientele and your purpose as an Extension professional, and have a good week. More information and clarity with respect to this current 3.5% call back will be coming within the next couple weeks.
