K-State’s OHREC Hosts Commercial Vegetable Research Field Day August 27
Kansas State University’s Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center (OHREC), in cooperation with Growing Growers Kansas City, will host a Commercial Vegetable Research Field Day from 4 to 7 p.m. on August 27, 2018 featuring discussions about current research projects and concluding with a cookout meal.
Registration of $15 to cover the cost of the meal and reservation are recommended. The Field Day is at the OHREC located at 35230 W 135th Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
Cary Rivard, director of the Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center, will welcome attendees at 4 p.m., followed by tours of current research projects:
• Tomato and pepper grafting
• Sweet potato slip production
• High tunnel production
• Produce quality and shelf life
• Cultivar evaluation
• Cover cropping strategies
• Effects of light on high tunnel crops
The field day includes a display of the mobile produce cooler and discussions of considerations for building your own.
