Engineering Extension to Host Youth Competition in Wind Energy
In 2019, the Kansas Energy Program within K-State Engineering is hosting the ultimate wind energy learning experience, where teams of students design, build and test their own wind turbines in a 48" x 48" wind tunnel at a wind speed of approximately 3.5 m/s. There are two divisions - 4-8 grade and 9-12 grade. Any student group is welcome to participate, including, but not limited to public school, home school, 4H, after-school clubs, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
We are excited to announce details of the 2019 Kansas KidWind Challenge. Please take a look at the details below and check out additional information on our website at www.kansasenergyprogram.org. We are expanding the Challenge to include four regional and one statewide KidWind Challenge.
2019 Kansas KidWind Challenges:
• SW Kansas – 2/7/19 (Thursday): Dodge City (Village Square Mall) – register
• NE Kansas – 2/14/19 (Thursday): Manhattan (Unger Complex) – register
• SE Kansas – 3/1/19 (Friday): Burlington (Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant) – register
• NW Kansas – 3/7/19 (Thursday): Oakley (Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center) – register
• Statewide – 3/30/19 (Saturday): Topeka (Kansas Museum of History) – by invitation to top teams
For past participants, we recognize the events are being held earlier in the year than usual and apologize for any inconvenience. This will allow teams from across the state to better participate and provide more time for preparation before the national KidWind Challenge.
We’ll be hosting an informational webinar on Monday, January 7, at 3:45 p.m., so please consider attending. The webinar will be recorded, even if you can’t attend.
