A few Holiday and End-of-Year Thoughts

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

With this being the last Tuesday Letter until January 8, I want to wish everyone the happiest of holidays. Please remember that the Manhattan campus will be closed from December 24, 2018 and will reopen January 2, 2019.

Author Kate Klise noted “During the holiday season, it’s easy to forget that sometimes the best gift of all is simply the gift of time.” Please use your gift of time this holiday season to spend as much of it as you can relaxing and recharging, enjoying your time with your loved ones, and remembering those less fortunate.

With the New Year fast approaching, I would like to bring two items to your attention. First, please remember that our next Partnership Meeting will be on January 30, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The Zoom connection information will be sent at a later date.

It was suggested by several that we focus this meeting on an Extension Council orientation theme. We are doing that. We have always encouraged our local units to view these Partnership Meetings with as many of your Extension Council members as possible. This is particularly advantageous for this meeting. We will be going over our Extension Board member position description, conducting an exercise from our Board Leadership Series, and going over other information regarding the roles and responsibilities of Extension Council members.

The second item I want to address is to thank you for your work this past calendar year. 2018 was the year of a very difficult budget reduction. It was the year of the Hale Library Fire, and, with so many people retiring or pursuing new opportunities, it was the year of the “Interim.” There are more 2018 challenges we can list. Let’s just say it was a very challenging year. Through it all, you acted professionally, offered your ideas and support, and, most important, kept helping the people we serve to help themselves by providing them with the research, education, and facilitation they need to improve their lives, livelihoods, and communities.

Thank you for that. Thank you for all that you are doing now, and thank you for all that you will do in 2019. Happy Holidays!
