Civil Rights: Non-Discrimination Part One

Submitted by Jennifer R Wilson

One of the basic tenants of Extension work is that we do not discriminate. We don’t discriminate on the basis of race, color or national origin. We don’t discriminate on the basis of gender. We don’t discriminate on the basis of age. We don’t discriminate on the basis of ability. We don’t discriminate on the basis of religion. Not only is discrimination against the law, it goes against our KSRE core values.

One of our civil rights responsibilities is to communicate that we don’t discriminate. We do this in two ways. The first is by displaying the And Justice For All poster. This USDA poster should be prominently displayed in each local unit office and regular meeting room spaces. NIFA has recently recommended that a slide of the And Justice For All poster be included in Extension presentations. New copies of the And Justice For All poster will be distributed at this winter’s civil rights trainings. You may also access the poster and a PPT file for inclusion in presentations on the KSRE Civil Rights website. You may print copies of the poster from the NIFA website, but must print according to the listed specifications.

The second way we communicate that we do not discriminate is by putting our notice of non-discrimination on all of our publications. There are three different versions of the notice of non-discrimination. Use the one that is appropriate for your document.
