Shout Out: Patsy Maddy and Robyn Deines

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

Jennifer Wilson nominated Twin Creek District’s Patsy Maddy and Walnut Creek District’s Robyn Deines for this week’s Shout Out. Jennifer had this to say about Patsy’s and Robyn’s above-and-beyond actions that moved Jennifer to nominate this dynamic duo for a Shout Out. Jennifer wrote:

“At K-State Research and Extension, we often help out our colleagues and save shipping and handling charges by picking up things from the Director’s office, K-State Research and Extension Bookstore, one of our analysis or diagnostic labs, or one of the Regional Research and Extension Centers whenever we are nearby. Most of the time these are small parcels. In the case of Patsy and Robyn, they went out of the way to pick up an SUV.

One of the ways we are trying to replace the eight cars that were lost in the Labor Day flood here on campus is by taking advantage of a program offered by the federal government. As a Land Grant University, we can assume ownership of vehicles they release from the fleets of their federal agencies. Of course they are used, but the cost is very reasonable: merely have someone pick them up.

Enter Patsy and Robyn, who were attending the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents Annual Conference in West Virginia and would be driving back to Western Kansas following the meeting. The SUV we desired was in Kentucky. Knowing it was a long shot, I had texted Jim Lindquist, who was attending the conference, to ask if there might be anyone who had driven to West Virginia with an extra passenger. Jim subsequently asked Patsy and Robyn if they were up for an adventure. They agreed to pick up the SUV and drive it, without tags and with limited knowledge regarding its drivability, to Manhattan as they drove back from West Virginia.”

Patsy and Robyn, thanks for lending us a hand at the State office by picking up a “little package” and delivering it to us safe and sound. Thank you, too, for all of the other great work you do!

If you know of a colleague or colleagues that deserve a Shout Out for a job well done, please send me their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ghadley@ksu.edu.
