Ellsworth Field Day to Educate About Cover Crop Benefits
Kansas State University extension specialists and researchers will host a cover crop field day and meeting on Wednesday, March 30.
Organizers say this free event will offer expert advice to producers and landowners on implementing cover crops in their operations. The event begins at 3 p.m. with an on-site visit of a cover crop field 1.5 miles west of Ellsworth, Kansas. The program continues at 4 p.m. at the Ellsworth Recreation Center, with presentations from speakers and a free dinner.
The planned events include talks about using cover crops for weed control and how grazing cover crops affects weed control and soil health. There will also be a discussion of carbon credit programs.
“We are excited to give participants the opportunity to see how impactful cover crops can be for an operation,” said Stacie Minson, K-State Research and Extension watershed specialist. “Events like these are a great opportunity to talk about the benefits of cover crops, but also to give advice to producers who might be wondering how to get started.”
Workshop speakers will include Minson, as well as a panel of K-State specialists in weed science, agronomy, and soil science. Interested participants should register for the free event by March 25 to ensure an accurate meal count. The full event flyer and registration links are available online, or by contacting 785-472-4442.
The field day is sponsored by the K-State Research and Extension, Midway District.
