Community health uses science-based approaches for the greatest health benefit to the greatest number of people by addressing the social, economic, and structural drivers that impact everyone’s health. The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development practices to ensure that every person has the opportunity to "attain his or her full health potential," and no one is "disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances." The following tools and resources can be used to improve health equity and well-being working with communities to achieve the nation’s Healthy People 2030 objectives.

SHARE NOW: The Kansas Community Health Worker Coalition (KCHWC) announced the launch of the state’s certification process. Certification is an important step in the career path of CHWs (community health workers) from training, employment and third-party payment in Kansas. You can hear more about the KCHWC certification and the work of CHWs at https://kschw.org/success-stories/.

REGISTER NOW: According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) antimicrobial use in plant agriculture has become a globally widespread practice, while the impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on human, animal and ecosystem health has become one of the most pressing global health threats. Register here for the online public workshop series, June 21, 22 and 27 (9 a.m. - 1 p.m. CDT) series exploring the role of plant agricultural practices in AMR development and the implications for human health.

CELEBRATE NOW: May is National Adolescent Health Month (NAHM). Adolescent health is a broad term that encompasses many aspects of health and well-being. During adolescence, youth begin to take more responsibility for their physical and mental health. They learn to make healthy choices, and engage in their own healthcare. https://bit.ly/3vdPUS7.
