Congratulations to Dr. Londa Nwadike - Builder Award

Submitted by Megan Kennelly

One of my favorite parts of Annual Conference was announcing the award winners. We have so much excellence to celebrate across the KSRE system!

One recipient was not there that day, and with the busy schedule of the rest of the conference I forgot to incorporate it somewhere else.

So - a bit belated - congratulations to Dr. Londa Nwadike, this year's recipient of the Builder Award! Here is the "script" for the award announcement:

"In a unique joint appointment between Kansas State University and the University of Missouri, Dr. Nwadike has served as State Extension Food Safety Specialist for both Kansas and Missouri since 2013. She works with county/district extension agents and other stakeholders in both states to develop programming and resources in food safety, focusing on consumer, produce grower and farmer's market vendor issues.

She has been the leader of the On-Farm Produce Safety initiative to help produce farmers learn about the Food Safety Modernization Act regulations and about Good Agricultural Practices, and partnered with the Kansas Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Lodging Program to hold in-person and virtual farmer's market vendor workshops to help vendors understand the regulations, educate about the importance of food safety and to help low-income consumers gain access to fresh produce through the Double Up Food Bucks program.

During the pandemic, the focus on trans-disciplinary teams grew and Londa has been a leader for the Local Foods Trans-Disciplinary Team for K-State Research and Extension. One of the many successes is a quarterly Local Foods Town Hall to bring together many groups across Kansas. This allows connections to form and information to be shared about what various groups offer to Kansas consumers."

Well done Londa!

Congratulations again to all the recipients, and thank you to everyone who did the work to nominate them.
