Benefits Open Enrollment

Submitted by Jennifer Wilson

Open enrollment for 2025 benefits elections is available now through October 31.

As in recent years, this is an active open enrollment, meaning you must re-enroll for benefits for 2025 even if you do not intend to change coverages. To complete enrollment, access the Membership Administration Portal using your K-State single sign-on credentials. Within the membership portal, select the "Enrollments & Events" tab, click the "Launch Enrollment" button and make your selection. Please click "Save and Submit" at the end of the online enrollment process and keep a copy of your pending elections statement.

Visit K-State's open enrollment webpage and the State Employee Health Plan website for resources, such as the SEHP 2025 Enrollment Guide, which includes detailed information on the benefits offered to you.

What happens if I don't enroll?

Employees actively enrolled in health coverage in 2024 who do not complete the enrollment process for plan year 2025 will default to Plan N with a health reimbursement account.

Employees currently enrolled in dental insurance and voluntary supplemental benefits will remain enrolled.

Due to changing vision vendors, employees must re-enroll for prescription eye-wear insurance.

Employees who have waived coverage will remain waived.

Employees enrolled in an FSA must re-enroll annually.

New or recent hires: If you are a recently hired employee, you will be completing or may have recently completed your benefit enrollment as a new hire. These coverage elections are for the remainder of the 2024 calendar year. You must also enroll during the open enrollment window to elect your coverage for the 2025 calendar year.

State Employee Health Plan changes for the upcoming year include:

Medical insurance
There will be no increase to employee premiums in 2025 regardless of the plan or level of coverage selected. This is the fifth consecutive year of no increases.

To comply with updated IRS regulations, the first deductible for those covering either a spouse or child(ren) under Plans C and N will change from $3,200 to $3,300. However, the total family deductible remains unchanged at $5,500.

The new, voluntary prescription eye-wear insurance provider is Surency Life and Health, replacing the current provider, Avesis.

The dental annual benefit maximum increased to $2,000 per member and the orthodontia lifetime maximum increased to $1,500 per member.

Health reimbursement account/health savings account/flexible spending account updates
Health savings account contribution limits have increased to $4,300 for individual coverage and $8,550 for those covering dependents. These updated limits apply to contributions made by the employer, employee and HealthQuest reward dollars earned.

As a reminder, the commuter flexible spending account options most likely will not be beneficial for most K-State employees since parking costs are already pre-tax payroll deductions. These benefits are available for all state employees and would generally apply if you pay out-of-pocket for mass transit and/or parking that is not reimbursed or deducted by K-State.

Annual flexible spending account contribution limits have not yet been established by the IRS. Look for more information in a future edition of K-State Today. NueSynergy will remain the vendor for all FSA accounts.

Voluntary supplemental insurance
Included with the health benefits provided by the State Employee Health Plan are three voluntary supplemental insurance options. These include accident, hospital indemnity and critical illness coverage. These plans pay a cash benefit to help with unexpected expenses due to an accident or covered illness. Voluntary supplemental plans are provided by MetLife.

KPERS Optional Group Life Insurance Open Enrollment
Members can get up to $250,000 in guaranteed coverage during open enrollment, Oct. 1-31, with no health questions, including members who have been declined in the past.

Please continue to monitor future editions of K-State Today, the Tuesday Letter and your mailboxes for additional open enrollment information throughout October. Contact the benefits team at benefits@k-state.edu with any questions.

Remember, you must complete your enrollment for the 2025 plan year this month!
