2025 States’ 4-H Outbound Exchanges Announced

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

Just in, exchanges for 4-H age youth in Kansas offer opportunities in Argentina, Costa Rica, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan during Summer 2025. All of the exchanges except Argentina offer one-month home-stays with 4-H partner organization families. Argentina provides a three-week group experience including lodging in a Cordoba hotel and daytime interactions with Argentine 4-H members. Japan adds an optional month of language and Japanese culture in a classroom while staying with a local family before the month home-stay with another family for a two-month experience in the country. All groups travel with chaperones and 4-H’ers from throughout the U.S before their group experiences and individual home-stays. These exchanges are managed by States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs.

Kansans, ages 12-18 during the period of their exchanges, are eligible to participate if they are not yet in college. (Minimum ages vary by exchange.) To participate, they should complete the online application which includes securing references, Kansas interviews, and state and online national orientations. Following the overseas experience, teens complete activities to share their experiences and promote exchanges.

Flyers about each exchange and comparison of the different programs can be found by following this link: States' 4-H International Exchange Program (kansas4-h.org). A direct link to the Outbound Application is found under "Events and Activities" and then "Global Citizenship" on the “Kansas IFYE webpage” link at www.Kansas4-H.org.

Application packages should be completed by November 1. Applicants will be contacted with details about Kansas Outbound Exchange Interviews and First Orientation being held on November 24, in Junction City.

An open informational zoom meeting will be held October 17, 7:00-8:00 pm, to provide information about this year’s exchanges. A blast to 2024 Kansas 4-H members ages 11-17 will include the access information and is planned to go out the previous week.  It is open to all who are interested in learning more.
