Shout Out: Helen Giefer
This week the Shout Out is shared by Tracy Fagan, Thomas County Extension Office Professional; and is sent for Helen Giefar, Thomas County Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent. Tracy shares:
"Extension Agent Gives Back — Helping Make School History
Colby, KS — Helen Giefer, K-State graduate, Extension Agent, and Local Unit Director for the Thomas County Extension Council, recently helped make Golden Plains High School history by assisting Searee Bruggeman, a visually impaired teen, and her cross-country team in qualifying for the 1A State Meet—the first time in the school’s history.
Serving as Searee’s tethered seeing guide, Helen provided consistent physical and motivational support throughout the season, ensuring the athlete could compete safely, confidently, and to her fullest potential. Her dedication exemplifies both leadership and compassion—qualities she continues to share through her role in Extension and in the broader community.
By returning to a sport in which she once excelled, Helen demonstrates the true spirit of mentorship and service—giving back, empowering youth, and helping others achieve goals once thought out of reach."
Helen -- thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Extension.
