Matthew McKernan Joins HNR as Consumer Horticulture Extension Associate
We are pleased to announce that Matthew McKernan will transition to the role of Consumer Horticulture Extension Associate in the Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources beginning February 2, 2026. Matthew has been a valued member of K-State Research and Extension for the past 10 years, serving as the Horticulture Agent in Sedgwick County.
During his tenure in Sedgwick County, Matthew provided leadership for the Extension Master Gardener program, growing volunteer engagement and expanding educational outreach. He is also well known for his media presence, regularly sharing horticulture expertise through television, radio, and digital platforms to reach audiences across Kansas.
In his new position, Matthew will focus on supporting county agents and statewide programming in consumer horticulture, leveraging his experience and passion for public education to benefit Kansans across the state.
