The Rules Are Always Changing – Be a Smart Consumer.

October indicates open enrollment for State of Kansas Health Insurance. Make sure you take time to find out the changes and how they will affect you. You will notice an increase in price for both Plans A and C. Make sure you take time to figure out what options are best for your situation. There has also been a change in the company providing the vision insurance. There are new rules when both spouses are eligible for State Health Insurance. For more information about health insurance for 2016 follow this link: http://www.kdheks.gov/hcf/sehp/. There is also a one click portal for K-State Employees to sign up and make changes for their insurance: https://www.as.ksu.edu/psp/HRIS/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/?cmd=logout.

If you have questions about health insurance plan choices, contact a member of the Financial Management PFT. We would be glad to help you think through your options. Don’t forget about the State Benefits presentation on Tuesday morning of Annual Conference. It is a great way to learn about insurance changes and updates.

Direct Bill or Retiree Insurance Members
Recognize that your open enrollment has changed from October 16 to November 15. This year all members need to sign up online to make their selections or call the direct bill hotline. You don’t want to lose your dental coverage because you just assumed you would get the same benefits that you had last year. For more information for retiree and direct bill health insurance follow this link: http://www.kdheks.gov/hcf/sehp/DB-2016Book.htm.

Federal Retiree Health Insurance
The major change besides price is that you now have the option of Self Plus One, where in the past, your options were just self or self and family. For more information about Federal Health Insurance options, follow this link: https://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/healthcare/plan-information/premiums/.

Don’t take your insurance coverage for granted. Make sure to take time to find out the details and be a smart consumer. Brought to you by Susie Latta, Marshall County Extension Agent - member of the Financial Management Program Focus Team.
