End of Year Accolades
The academic calendar for Extension affords several opportunities to celebrate a year’s end. The end of September marks the end of the federal fiscal year. Of course, the end of December marks the end of the calendar year. Spring commencement marks the end of the academic calendar year, and, the end of June marks the end of our state fiscal calendar year.
I would like for you to do something the rest of this week. Let’s consider this a week of end of year accolades for great work done this past fiscal year. Pick out at least four individuals who have done either great things for Extension or done great Extension work. These individuals may be agents, specialists, program assistants, office professionals, custodians, Extension Council members, or external stakeholders. You get the idea; anybody who has made a significant contribution to Extension.
Next, take a moment or two each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to thank those individuals for their great work. Don’t make it a generic “thanks.” Be specific. Tell them why they are deserving of that thanks. Let them know why you appreciate them as a colleague, volunteer, supporter, or friend. It will be a great way to end the year on a high note!
