2019 Grant Writing Workshop Calendar

Submitted by Nancy Daniels

Humboldt Grant workshop

In 2018 625 Kansans attended K-State Research and Extension Grant-writing workshops, which many of you hosted. This was a huge increase over the previous 14 months when 150 people had been trained.

As a follow-up to those workshops, we're partnering with the Kansas libraries and community foundations who hold licenses to "The Foundation Center Directory," an online guide to finding grants. These workshops will encourage previous grant workshop attendees to become familiar with The Foundation Center Directory and practice looking for grants. So far,  the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, McPherson Community Foundation and Lawrence Public Libraries have agreed to partner with their local units to host grant workshops and Foundation Center Directory Workshops.

Most workshops originate at the local level so there is no “2019 calendar” at the beginning of the year; however, a number of workshops are being planned. When local hosts have determined the details of time, place, cost and registration contacts, the workshop is added to the K-State Research and Extension calendar at http://www.ksre.k-state.edu/community/.

Workshops planned so far are:

• Wabaunsee County, March 13
• McPherson, March 19
• Ellsworth, March 26
• Wyandotte County, March 27
• Garnett, March 28
• Pittsburg, April 4
• Salina, April 9
• Marshall County, April 26
• Topeka, August 28
• Kansas Association of Counties- October 28
• Southwind District (Fort Scott or Chanute) November 8

Short Term Outcomes:
•93% increased their confidence at writing a successful grant.
•97% learned new sources of data to document community need.
•96% learned new sources for finding grants.
•93% have increased confidence to develop the elements of a successful grant.
•86% gained confidence at writing a grant budget.

If your community is close to one of these workshops, please help get the word out to your constituents. If you would like to host a grant workshop, please contact Nancy Daniels at nkdaniels@ksu.edu
