Shout Out: K-State Research and Extension Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

Nozella Brown of K-State Research and Extension Wyandotte County has this week’s Shout Out. Nozella writes:

“A Shout Out to our K-State Research and Extension Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners, many of whom are members of the Great Generation and/or the Baby Boomers. They may not be the most tech savvy, but their experience with similar crisis in the past has built in the grit and resilience that we all could use at this time.

They are looking at creative ways to provide education, expand their knowledge base, maintain the demonstration gardens and do a plant sale online. They are not sitting around complaining, though many are within the most at-risk population for this virus. They're being innovative as they follow protective protocols. They are of a generation that learned to help one another in need, because you never know when it will be you. They learned the values of others first, community first and the benefits of giving and service.

I’ve been humbled by their responses as we had to move our office staff to work remotely in a relatively short period of time; and, I applaud them. We have much wisdom to learn from these individuals. I am privileged to serve in the "Dottie" with these volunteers and their advisor, Lynn Loughary, our horticulture agent.”

To the K-State Research and Extension Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners, thanks for all you do for the people you serve and K-State Research and Extension.

If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues that deserve a Shout Out, please send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ghadley@ksu.edu.
