Informational Meeting- Women in Ag Series 2023

Submitted by Robin Reid

Many of you are familiar with the Farm Financial Series for Kansas Women in Ag that was held in January/February 2019, and the Risk Management for Kansas Women in Ag series held in January/February 2022. If not, in a nutshell these were hybrid-delivered programs that were held one night a week for four weeks in a row.

LaVell Winsor, K-State Farm Analyst, and myself (Robin Reid) did a keynote address via Zoom to in-person host locations across Kansas where host agents then facilitated a hands-on activity and local speakers. This was a highly successful program, bringing in 685 participants in 2019 and 340 participants in 2022. Each year, the program has had around 30 host sites across the state.

The program will return in January/February 2023! While the format will look the same, the topic this coming year will focus on Agricultural Land Leases, including basics of leasing land, cash rental rates, Kansas lease law, writing a good lease, lease negotiations considerations and incorporating conservation practices into the farm lease. This will be a signature program for the Farm Management PFT for programming year 2022/2023.

LaVell and I will be hosting an informational Zoom meeting to kick the project off on August 18, at 1:00 p.m. on Zoom. This meeting will introduce the project, answer and ask questions of agents that want to be involved and kick off the host site registration! Anyone who may be interested in hosting a site or being a part of the project in some way should plan to attend. We will record and post the meeting in TEAMS afterwards for those who cannot make it live. Agents will have until September 15 to register as a host site.

One especially exciting change this year is that the extension systems in Nebraska and Indiana will be partnering with us! Another change is that we plan to also have an online “host” site, specifically targeting absentee landlords. Both of these will present new opportunities, but also some logistical challenges. So, even if you don’t want to host a site, LaVell and I could use virtual help! Jump on the meeting on August 18 to learn more.

Connection information was sent over the Ag Agent listserv, but if you are not on that list, please email me, robinreid@ksu.edu, for the Zoom link. There is no obligation to be involved in the project by joining the Zoom meeting.
