The National Extension Framework for Health Equity and Well-being recommends using community development strategies and health literacy programs to ensure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. The following resources help us improve well-being for all, and achieve Healthy Kansas 2030 and Healthy People 2030 objectives.

Preventing Food Poisoning: The holidays may be over, but food safety is important year-round! Invisible germs like bacteria, viruses, and parasites can contaminate food and cause illness, leading to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Protect yourself and others by practicing safe food handling: rinse produce, cook foods to proper temperatures, wash hands and surfaces, and store leftovers properly. High-risk groups, including young children, pregnant women, and older adults, should take extra precautions. Read more about food safety practices here.

Understanding and Addressing Depression: Depression is more than just feeling sad; it’s a serious condition that can affect anyone, disrupting daily life and impacting mental and physical health. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) provides valuable insights into the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for depression. Explore how research is advancing our understanding and improving care through innovative approaches like tailored treatments and telehealth options. For educators, this is a great resource to share and encourage discussions about mental health. Learn more and access outreach materials here.

Understanding Mammography: A Vital Tool for Early Detection: Mammography is an essential imaging method used for the early detection of breast cancer and other breast diseases. This diagnostic and screening tool uses X-rays to create detailed images of breast tissue, helping radiologists identify abnormalities such as tumors or microcalcifications. Advancements like digital mammography and 3D tomosynthesis are improving accuracy, especially for women with dense breast tissue. While mammograms involve a small amount of radiation, the benefits of early detection often outweigh the risks. Explore more about how mammography works, its limitations, and innovative NIBIB-funded technologies enhancing breast cancer screening here.
