Kansas State Fair Questions

Submitted by Wade Weber

With the 4-H handbooks being posted for the 2021 Kansas State Fair, we received some inquiries with regards to the class and premium changes. We would like to address these and ensure the information is shared with all of extension.

When we moved to the Virtual Fair in 2020, the decision to evaluate the Visual Arts entries was made to provide appropriate feedback to those exhibitors as well, but placings weren’t assigned. With that decision, and the ability for the evaluation process to happen, it was then determined that placings could be awarded as in other Project Areas. This is another area where we can showcase or highlight the hard work of our youth and celebrate their achievements.

Much time, thought and research from other states were given to the new classes listed and a visual arts rubric. Once it is completed, we will share with the KSRE system. Please contact Aliah Mestrovich Seay with any related questions. By adding State Fair evaluation to Visual Arts exhibits, we can strengthen project learning objectives and clarify evaluation rubrics to youth and their families within Visual Arts.

The Kansas State Fair Board has decided there will be no premiums paid for this year's static exhibits. Instead there will be two entry gate tickets given to each exhibitor. When this change was proposed, we reached out to a few agents for feedback to this proposed change. While our feedback was not affirming of this change, the Kansas State Fair Board had to make a decision based on what was financially feasible for them.

Concerning the 2021 Kansas State Fair, exhibit judging schedule is currently under review. We will share the schedule as soon as possible.

Thank you for your questions and we are excited to move forward with an in-person Kansas State Fair for 2021!
