Are You Looking for a New Adventure in Extension?

Submitted by Nancy Daniels

Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities Logo - state of Kansas with houses inside it.

K-State Extension Community Vitality seeks the part-time help of a highly organized Office Professional or Agent to be the Conference Coordinator for the Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities (CEC) conference in Courtland, June 24, 25, and 26, 2026. Proximity is not a prerequisite; we will reimburse mileage for any out-of-pocket expenses.

The Conference Coordinator’s extension office will be paid $6,000 in salary savings in exchange for their time and effort. All mileage and expenses out of the office will be paid by the Kansas CEC.

The successful candidate will incorporate the Conference Coordinator role into their existing work and, in exchange, work with state partners in a very meaningful role every month, gaining important contacts and experience. The Conference Planning team includes professionals from Network Kansas, Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas Department of Commerce: Quality Places; Office of Rural Prosperity; and Kansas Main Street, as well as the conference hosts in Kingman and Courtland.

The first-ever Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities (CEC) conference was held in Kingman on June 25-27 with extraordinary success:

• 131 participants.
• A local business owner sold a building to a conference participant.
• A local downtown shop reported its best sales day ever because of the conference.
• One conference participant returned to Kingman and is now considering relocating there to start a new business.
• The Kansas Micro-Internship program, an event sponsor, connected several conference participants and local business owners with student interns to help with projects.

The first step is to get your director’s approval; the second step is to send an inquiry to Nancy Daniels, nkdaniels@ksu.edu, for the application materials.

Key Dates: Applications are due August 31
First Meeting with Conference Planning team: September 8
University of Missouri CEC:  September 30-October 2, at Kansas CEC expense.

Intensive times: January or February when Speaker invitations are made and the conference schedule is set. June is when conference name tags, speaker needs, and participant communication intensify. Nancy will give you an estimate of hours each month.
