Shout Out: Jenny Doty and Quinlan Carttar

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

This week the Shout Out is from Amanda Lindahl, Local Food System Program Coordinator; and is sent for Jenny Doty and Quinlan Carttar, both Food Systems Entrepreneurial Resource Navigators. Amanda writes:

"Shout out to our colleagues serving the USDA Heartland Regional Food Business Center (HRFBC), Jenny Doty and Quinlan Carttar, both Food Systems Entrepreneurial Resource Navigators. The impact that these two have had on local food businesses over the past two years since the center was established is massive. The work of the HRFBC is helping farm and food enterprises start up, grow, and connect with local and regional markets. Jenny and Quinlan have worked so tirelessly to support local food businesses providing essential technical support, trouble shooting business challenges, and supporting successful Business Builder Grant applications. Kansas received the most applications among the Heartland states and after review, also had the most finalists (25) awarded grants totally $1,044,267. This is significant for small businesses owners and Jenny and Quinlan played a huge role in that success.

As many of you may know, funding for the HRFBC was recently eliminated by the USDA. To learn more about this impact please read: https://heartlandfoodbusiness.org/2025/07/16/usda-announces-plan-to-end-regional-food-business-center-funding/

Thank you, Jenny and Quinlan, for all of your efforts to support and build small food businesses across Kansas and the role that you have played in building our Kansas Local Food System!"

Jenny and Quinlan -- thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Extension.
