Submitted by Kathy Gehl

DeAnn Presley (left), professor of soil science, is presented the Fellow Award from Clare Lindahl (right), CEO of the Soil and Water Conservation Society.

DeAnn Presley has been named a Fellow of the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS). The award was formally presented at the 77th International Annual Conference of the SWCS held in Denver, Colorado, in August. The annual awards are presented to recipients that demonstrate excellence in supporting the Society’s mission to advance soil, water and related natural resources conservation to achieve sustainability.

Presley is a Professor in the Department of Agronomy. She is a soil scientist who works on a range of projects spanning both agricultural and suburban environments. Her research and extension interests include soil and water conservation, erosion control in both agricultural systems and urban/suburban environments, tillage and residue management effects on soil properties, bioenergy and biofuels, composting and application of organic materials to soils, providing education for onsite wastewater treatment professionals, and basic soil science education for youth. Specializing in environmental soil science allows Presley to work at the interface of agricultural production and natural resource conservation.

The Soil and Water Conservation Society is the premier international organization for professionals who practice and advance the science and art of natural resource conservation. Members include SWCD employees, researchers, administrators, extension workers, students, producers, policymakers, USDA employees, educators, consultants, retirees and more.
