Living Well Wednesday to Launch Spanish-Only Programs this Fall

Submitted by Julie Smith

The virtual learning series, Living Well Wednesday, hosted by K-State Research and Extension, will launch fall programming on September 28. Wellness is defined broadly through this series including topics that relate to physical, mental, financial and relationship health.

All programs are offered via Zoom, from 12:15 – 1:00 p.m. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. You can register for any, or all, of the first three programs in the series at https://bit.ly/KSRE-Programas.

In fall 2022, the first three sessions will be offered in Spanish only. The remaining sessions on November 9, 30 and December 14, will provide English and Spanish options and topics will be announced soon. Here is more detail on the Spanish only program offerings:

September 28: “Connecting Cultures,” presented by Elizabeth Brunscheen-Cartagena, Sedgwick County Extension Agent. Elizabeth will explore ways to keep your cultural roots alive as you start a new beginning in a new country.

October 12: “Chronic Illness – Prevention and Management” will address the leading causes of chronic illnesses for the Latino population. Isla Alvarez and Crystal Rodriguez, Public Health Educators through the Community Health Workers program at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), will share strategies and lifestyle changes that can help reduce or prevent chronic illnesses.

October 26: “Survive, Strive and Thrive!” Elizabeth Brunscheen-Cartagena is back with a program to help parents gain confidence in their ability to be a good parent and to gain the skills and attitudes necessary for rearing healthy, positive children (ages 3-16).

K-State Research and Extension has a presence in all 105 Kansas counties. For more information on this series, and to find your local office, go to https://www.ksre.k-state.edu/about/statewide-locations.html.
