4-H Dog Judges Training and Re-Certification

Submitted by Beth Hinshaw

The 2023 Kansas 4-H Dog Judges Training and Re-certification will be held in Wichita at the Extension Center on January 27-29. Beginning the training on Friday evening has allowed participants in one weekend to be trained and certified in the four dog phases of showmanship, obedience, agility and rally obedience of the Dog Care and Training Project.

New judges can be certified and returning judges can get a refresher and be re-certified. This is also a good opportunity for local dog project leaders and older 4-H members to observe the training and better understand how they will be judged at invitational and the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show. Participants must be 16-years-old and up to attend this certification and training.

Emails will be sent to judges needing to re-certify and encourage them to become familiar with the new Kansas 4-H Dog Rule Book.

New judges are always needed. If you are a parent or someone who wants to help our 4-H youth with the dog project, please consider taking the training. All registering should have knowledge of the 4-H Dog Program.

Registration Deadline: January 15, 2023

Fee: Certification cost $95 and Observing cost $50

Judges will be able to select which areas they would like to certify in: showmanship, obedience, rally obedience and/or agility.

Those who received a score of 80% or higher are re-certified for the next 5 years. If they received a lower score, they will need to complete an in-person re-certification process when it becomes available.
